Stranger Danger

My sister recently had a talk with my four-year-old nephew Jack about strangers. Here’s how it went:

SISTER: Now, Jack, if a stranger says, “Come here, I want to show you something,” what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, “Come here, I want to give you some candy,” what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, “Come here, I want to show you my puppy,” what do you do?

JACK: Oh, I love puppies…

Irina Shayk Brightens Up the “Late Show”

Adding her hotness to the talk show’s lineup, Irina Shayk was among the star power spotted arriving at the “Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday (February 13).

The Russian stunner looked yummy in yellow as she offered up a wave to fans lining the Ed Sullivan Theatre entrance before heading inside for the evening taping session.

As for the reason behind the visit, Miss Shayk – who covered the 2011 installment – was there to help promote the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue before it’s release tomorrow on Valentine’s Day.

During the appearance, Irina joined a handful of fellow SI beauties including this year’s covergirl Kate Upton in reading off the “Top Ten Reasons This Year’s ‘Sports Illustrated’ Swimsuit Issue Is The Best One Ever.”

Watch Whitney Houston?s Final Performance (Video)

A couple of days ago Whitney Houston gave an amazing performance at a pre-Grammy party, turns out that would be her last performance. A fan of the singer recorded the performance that has now been released via CBS News. During Kelly Price?s “For The Love Of R&B Grammy Party” Houston and Price took the stage to perform an amazing rendition of ?Jesus Loves Me?. At the time no one knew it but that would be the last time Whitney ever performed. One audience member who was watching video taped the whole entire performance and has now shared the video with CBS News. I sit here and write this as I just finished watching the video, which you can see below and I am in awe. In all honesty I feel as though I am having a hard time putting my thoughts into words for a couple of reasons. One even though there is a hoard of screaming fans that at some points block out the singer, her beautiful voice still shines though. Whitney sounded just as freaking amazing in this video as she did back in the 80?s when she became a household name. I will admit I got a [...]

Justin Bieber’s Bodyguard Scuffles With Paparazzo At LAX

Altercation occurred when photographer refused to stop snapping shots of Bieber, who was at airport to pick up family.

Justin Bieber's bodyguard got into a scuffle with a paparazzo at LAX airport on Monday. According to reports, the bodyguard intervened when the photographer refused to stop snapping the pop star's photo.

"Today at approximately 2:15 p.m., Los Angeles Airport Police observed what appeared to be a crowd control incident at Terminal 4 on the upper departures level involving Justin Bieber. An investigation revealed an altercation occurred between an unnamed body guard (victim) and a photographer (paparazzi) at the location," a Los Angeles Airport Police official told E! News about the incident. In the same statement, the police official explained that the paparazzo was ultimately detained by officials. "[The] twenty-one-year-old … photographer, a resident of Van Nuys, Calif., was arrested and transported to the Airport Police Station for pre-booking procedures," the statement reads. "He was later transported to the LAPD Pacific Division Jail and booked for California Penal Code Section 245 — Assault with a Deadly Weapon — a felony." In footage obtained by TMZ, the photographer and Bieber's bodyguard are seen tussling with each other before the bodyguard punches him in the face. Later on, officials arrived and handcuffed the photographer. Bieber was at the airport picking up his family. He tweeted about meeting up with them, but never mentioned the incident. "I have my family with me…been a while. BEST FEELING. I love being a BIG BROTHER! #FAMILY," he wrote. Bieber recently tweeted about another incident that took place at an airport. When it was reported that he had ignored his fans, he wanted to clarify that that's not what happened. "The other day in the airport i got surrounded by 20 paps. I dont like small spaces and i just wanted to get on the plane. I ran to get thru the gate and there is a video of me running by fans and on the other side you dont see the 20 paps. I would never run by my fans… and for those that i did pass that day I AM SORRY. I know my fans are my everything. I know my responsibility to them. I LOVE MY BELIEBERS," he said of the incident, which took place in late January. "So as i get older i know i will learn to deal with these things better and better just still learning," he added. "Still human. just had to get that out." Bieber has always had an interesting relationship with the paps. In March 2011, he gave them the middle finger after being surrounded by photographers following a birthday dinner with his girlfriend, Selena Gomez. He later apologized for the incident.

Grammys Flashback: That Happened Last Year

From Lady Gaga’s egg to Katy Perry’s wedding video, plenty of crazy went down at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.
By John Mitchell

Lady Gaga arrives at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards
Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images

The 54th annual Grammy Awards are just a day away and everyone in the MTV Newsroom is starting to get excited. Will Beyoncé" show up? How will Adele sound in her first major live performance since undergoing surgery to repair a vocal cord hemorrhage? What color will Katy Perry"'s hair be? What will Lady Gaga" wear? We can't wait to find out. But if last year's show is any indication, it's safe to say that just about anything could happen at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday night.

The quirk factor was high at last year's Grammys, and it got started long before a single award was handed out. Lady Gaga's red carpet arrival inside of a pearlescent egg carried by four scantily clad dudes wearing prosthetics on their faces and shoulders should have been reminder enough that the unusual is the norm at the Grammys. But in case it wasn't, the show itself delivered Muppets and Katy Perry on a swing. We've rounded up five big moments from last year's show to remind you why the Grammys are the craziest awards show of the year. » Lady Gaga arrives in that freakin' egg, er, "vessel."
Never one to just casually stroll the red carpet in a pretty dress, Lady Gaga went to great lengths to make every element of her Grammy appearance part of a larger art piece that culminated in the performance of her then-new single "Born this Way." It all started on the red carpet, when she arrived already inside her "vessel," later claiming to Jay Leno that she'd been in a state of artistic incubation inside it for 72 hours. (Did you just roll your eyes? We think you just rolled your eyes!) The pop star emerged to deliver a full-voiced — if otherwise joyless — performance of the song, which at the time was drawing heavy criticism for sounding maybe a little too much like Madonna's 1989 classic "Express Yourself," and went on to score three Grammys, including Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster. » Did Christina Aguilera fall down after that showstopping Aretha Franklin tribute?
Last year's ceremony kicked off with an Aretha Franklin tribute featuring Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams. The ladies delivered a rousing group performance of "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman" before launching into solos of "Ain't No Way," "Until You Come Back to Me," "Think," "Respect" and "Spirit in the Dark" and closing with "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" — tearing the roof off the Staples Center. Except all anyone wanted to talk about afterward was how Christina maybe slipped a little in her towering heels. The performance came just one week after Xtina botched "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XLV (luckily, Kelly Clarkson's rendition this year went smoothly), and it seemed like the "Beautiful" singer and "Voice" judge had fully redeemed herself after the debacle, delivering a fantastic vocal performance … until she stumbled onstage, sending gossips into a tizzy that the singer may have been, we'll say, out of sorts during the performance despite much evidence to the contrary. Or maybe people just like a good near-fall? People get very excited when an entertainer loses her footing — don't they, Madonna? Anyway, while everyone tried to make Xtina's mini-tumble a bigger story than it was, the ladies earned a richly deserved standing ovation for their tribute to Franklin, who was rather ill at the time but has since recovered, lost a bunch of weight, gotten engaged and ended that engagement. (A year in Hollywood time is like five years in normal person time … maybe that's why everyone is so afraid of getting older!) » Bieber performs big, loses Best New Artist to unknown jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding.
Justin Bieber's medley performance began with an acoustic strum through "Baby" but quickly segued into a raucous take on "Never Say Never," complete with breakdancing ninja acrobats, fire breathers and a cameo rap by "Karate Kid" star Jaden Smith. Biebs' mentor Usher even joined in on the fun for a pop-and-lock-heavy dance-off to his hit "OMG." But the real story with Bieber at last year's Grammys was that he lost. To Esperanza Spalding. A critically acclaimed but otherwise unknown jazz performer. Bieber didn't take the loss so well but his fans went even crazier, expressing the profound sadness they felt and bearing witness to their idol's defeat by hacking Spalding's Wikipedia page and changing her middle name to both "Justin" and "Quesadilla." One fan wrote, "Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?" while another scribbled, "So the Esperanza Spalding has only 8 thousand followers on twitter and how many does Justin Bieber has?" It seems someone forgot to tell the Belieber army that the Grammys are not a popularity contest (well, they're not supposed to be, anyway) and that one's amount of Twitter followers is not taken into account when deciding the winners. Duly noted! » Katy Perry performed the ballad "Not Like the Movies" while on a swing, playing video from her wedding to Russell Brand.
If you needed further proof that a lot can change in just a single year, look no further than Katy Perry's performance at last year's ceremony. Much like she did on her California Dreams Tour, Perry performed her ballad "Not Like the Movies" while sitting on a swing as video from her elaborate October 2010 wedding to Russell Brand was projected behind her. Though one would think a sweet performance like Katy's would shut the gossip mill down for at least a little while, the couple was already back to defending their strange union less than two months later when Brand co-hosted "Live!" with Kelly Ripa. By year's end, Perry and Brand's marriage was officially no more, and it made re-watching her performance from last year for the purposes of this article, um, kind of awkward. » Cee Lo performed "Forget You" with a bunch of Muppets (and Gwyneth Paltrow).
No, no one at your Grammy party spiked your drink. Cee Lo Green, wearing a crazy red bear suit and a rainbow fan of feathers (think peacock), really did perform his Grammy-nominated smash "Forget You" backed by a bunch of singing and dancing Muppets while Oscar-winning home health guru Gwyneth Paltrow writhed atop his piano. Oddly, the whole thing worked like gangbusters and was a big old ball of fun. (And when was the last time anyone associated the word "fun" with Gwyneth Paltrow? Such is the funky power of Cee Lo.) This year's show has the potential to outdo last year's in the water-cooler department with Rihanna and Chris Brown both set to perform under the same roof for the first time since, well, you know … in addition to plenty of interesting collabos, including a special electronic dance music performance set to feature the Foo Fighters (right?), and whatever Lady Gaga decides to get into. What are you most looking forward to at this year's Grammys? Let us know in the comments below. Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Grammy Awards Fashion Face-Off: LL Cool J vs. Bruno Mars

Two of the slickest superstars on the planet are pitted against each other in this Fashion Face-Off.

First, we have LL Cool J, the host of the 2012 Grammy Awards, who had the unenviable task last night of MCing an event over which a pall had been cast, due to Whitney Houston’s tragic death. But the actor/rapper kicked off the ceremony with a prayer and handled his duties as well as could be expected.

His competition? Bruno Mars, producer/performer extraordinaire, and possibly the most talented man in the music business today.

Compare. Contrast. And vote between these icons below:

HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables

I’ve been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There’s also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry.

When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, “There’s no place for a dining room table…”

B*TCH, YOU’RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.

I hated her.

Now there’s some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn’t want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?

Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn’t save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, “Ah, f*ck it,” and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I’M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she’s an idiot. But there’s nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?

Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It’s like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It’s like the promised land. It’s sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven’t seen one rat since I’ve been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy.

I’m supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I’m not sure I will.

Justin Bieber And Esperanza Spalding: One Year Since Their Grammy Showdown

MTV News looks at what the artists have been up to since Spalding beat out Bieber for Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys.
By Jocelyn Vena

Last year, Esperanza Spalding beat out sure bets like Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine and Drake when she won the Best New Artist prize at the 2011 Grammy Awards. The loss was particularly hard on Bieber, who spoke to MTV News shortly after the loss. "I had no clue what was going to happen; I worked really hard these past few years, and you know, I'm not going to lie — I was disappointed," Bieber told MTV News at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "But, you know, I'm gonna come back [next year] and we'll take a few home. … I'm inspired to work harder than I did last year. It's going to be hard, but I'm going to try."

Spalding was nearly as floored by the win as Bieber. "I really didn't think it was going to be me," she told MTV News backstage. "I was one of those [surprised] people. … It was so unexpected, that's the truth. I'm grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years. I don't really think this is for me; it's for all of us. And I wish they could all be here to put one finger on this with me." In the 12 months since last year's Grammy show, Bieber has been everywhere and has certainly lived up to his promise to work hard. He's released new music as well as lots of splashy music videos, gone on an arena-filling world tour, dropped a box-office-busting 3-D concert film, hit the studio for his upcoming album Believe and kept teen girls screaming with an onslaught of various new hairstyles and photo ops. Spalding, on the other hand, has managed to fly under the radar in the time since she took home Grammy gold. However, this March she plans to get back on the scene and release her new album, Radio Music Society, her follow-up to Chamber Music Society, the 2010 album that helped bring national attention to her at the Grammys last year.

"Originally I thought it would be fun to release a double album," she said in a statement about the soon-to-be released album. "One disc with an intimate, subtle exploration of chamber works and a second one in which jazz musicians explore song forms and melodies that are formatted more along the lines of what we would categorize as pop songs. Those are the two things that really interest me, and it intrigues me to think about different presentation approaches while writing each kind of song." As she sets out to celebrate the anniversary of her win, Spalding dropped a new track, "Black Gold," to radio, and earlier this month she premiered the video for it. She'll also hit the road for a tour that kicks off in April and wraps up in June. Interestingly enough, Bieber is also set to drop his new album later this year, for which he's enlisted Drake, will.i.am, Pharrell and Lil Wayne. Could it mean there will be another Bieber/Spalding showdown at the 2013 Grammy Awards? Only time will tell. Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions!
A few weeks back, a rumor hit the Internet that Justin Bieber wanted to remake "Fear," his pal Mark Wahlberg's classic thriller. Being that Wahlberg and Bieber already have a project in the works, it wouldn't be too off base for the teen star to try his hand at the creepy film that follows a young man (Walhberg) who becomes obsessed with his teen girlfriend (Reese Witherspoon) and goes on a dangerous rampage when the romance turns sour.

Witherspoon will sit down with MTV News on Tuesday (January 31) for an exclusive interview and premiere of a previously unseen clip from her upcoming film, "This Means War." The special, "MTV First: This Means War," will air at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. And, during that chat, she has an interesting reaction to the news that her film may get a new-millennium remake. "Oh, really? Fine, great. That'd be cool. Would he be playing me, or is he playing Mark Wahlberg?" she wondered. "Is it like a girl who harasses the family, like a stalker who can't leave him alone? That would be good, right? I mean girls get crazy about him. Yeah, he's very talented." Much like
Wahlberg, Witherspoon thinks Bieber certainly does have that "it" factor. "You know, I didn't know much about him until I saw the documentary. And I thought that was really worthwhile, worth seeing and it made me think, 'What a sweetheart,' and he has a really nice connection to his family," she said. "He's been working really hard, singing on the street." Following the on-air "First" segment, Academy Award winner Witherspoon will stay for an additional 30-minute interview on MTV.com with MTV News' Josh Horowitz. Fans can be part of the action right away by submitting questions on MTV.com or via Twitter by using the @MTVNews hashtag #MTVFirst. "This Means War," the McG-directed comedy-action film, stars Witherspoon as a seductive female dating two of the world's deadliest CIA operatives (played by Chris Pine and Tom Hardy), whose partnership and friendship are put in jeopardy when they begin to battle for her affection. Instead of talking to her about the love triangle, they try to settle the matter using all of the weapons at their disposal. The film also stars one of Witherspoon's real-life pals, comedian and "Chelsea Lately" host Chelsea Handler, who gives Reese's character the terrible advice that she should continue dating both men. Can Justin Bieber tackle a "Fear" remake?
Justin Bieber knows a thing or two about "swag," so it's no surprise that the one and only Lil Wayne visited the young star while he was deep in the recording process for his next album, Believe.

"Good time in the studio last night. back at it tonight. oh yeah…and big bro came thru…," Bieber tweeted, linking to a photo of him and Weezy chilling out and skateboarding together. In case his fans didn't get the message, he followed it up with another tweet and picture: "and when i say big bro i mean @LilTunechi . #BELIEVE IT #family." While it's unknown whether Wayne will appear on Bieber's album, a certain super-producer is definitely in the mix, according to another tweet: "in the studio with @timbaland and the crew. #creating… got a lot of things i want to write about. ready to make music." Bieber has said he hopes his new album will have a Justin Timberlake vibe, similar to what Timbaland created on FutureSex/LoveSounds. And for those wondering how it all went in the studio, Bieber's longtime manager, Scooter Braun, filled fans in. "got great reports on the first night with @justinbieber and@timbaland," Braun tweeted. "Exciting stuff. heard YMCMB stopped by too. gonna be interesting."

Believe is set to drop later this year. Bieber has already worked with Black Eyed Peas mastermind will.i.am, who will reportedly produce a song for the album. Whether Weezy will have any part on the album, Bieber has said he's been in talks with other MCs, like pal Drake and Kanye West, to make appearances on the album. "The only conversation we've had about Justin's album that we're about to do is, it's really important that it's the proper transition, because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," vocal producer Kuk Harrell told MTV News. "And we can't just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There's a record in between." What are you expecting from Bieber's next album? Let us know in the comments below!
